Martha K. Pomerantz

Investment Principal

When you see the words "finishing school" and "mogul" in the same sentence, "mogul" is usually the noun, "sent" is the verb, and "daughter to finishing school" completes it. But for Martha Pomerantz, a graduate of the perfectly named Miss Porter's School in Farmington, Connecticut, moguls were the ski bumps she maneuvered in snow-dancing competitions. A remarkably interesting family background (her mother is an Episcopalian priest, and her father founded an investment management company in New York) produced family dinner-table discussions that always seemed to gravitate to stocks and what makes companies successful. "From a very early age," Martha adds, "it was in my blood." Has the skiing helped? "Absolutely. Both the investment business and ski competition require great precision and thoughtfulness – and a love for competing."
