Kathleen W. Spencer

Kate Spencer's eyes light up when she speaks about employee growth and development at Lowry Hill. "You need tools in your toolbox that will always stay with you. The kinds of tools that empower you and push you to challenge yourself." With a handful of female teachers in her family, Kate was interested in educational growth starting at an early age. She went on to graduate with a degree in elementary education, and when an opportunity arose outside of the classroom (her first job out of college was at American Bank in St. Paul), she discovered her real passion. "I was certain that I would teach, too," she says, "but, in actuality, administration is teaching. It's about enabling others to be the best that they can be." For the past 10 years, Kate has also tapped into her teaching background by mentoring teenagers through her church. "I enjoy their honesty and enthusiasm. It's a rewarding experience because I get just as much out of it as they do."

Previous experience: director of administration, Rider Bennett, LLC; consultant, Spencer and Associates; assistant vice president, American Bank. Education: University of St. Thomas (Mini Masters in Financial Planning certification), University of Wisconsin-Madison (Graduate School of Banking certification), University of Minnesota Duluth (B.A.). Community organizations: teen mentor, St. Stephen Lutheran Church.
