Stock Selection

Philosophy

Invest in Fundamentals

We follow companies, not trends.  We carefully consider companies with clear competitive advantage, strong management and attractive price-to-cash flow ratios.

Fewer is Better

We invest in a relatively small number of stocks, bonds and other securities, because making fewer decisions allows us to make better decisions.

Stay Calm

Investors often overreact to bad news and create the bargain prices we look for.  They just as often overreact to apparent good news, however, and drive prices up to unrealistic values.  We carefully monitor our holdings and sell if one falls victim to this "irrational exuberance."

Be Careful

We attempt to buy stocks with a margin of safety between their purchase price and our estimate of true value, and buy only those bonds with high-credit quality.

Buy and Hold

Buying smart and holding minimizes our clients' costs of turnover, including taxes.

We prefer investing in companies whose leadership demonstrates their commitment to success by having a significant personal investment in the company.  Similarly, each Lowry Hill principal is expected to personally make a financial investment in the strategies we manage for our clients.
